What are we trying to do?........

The increase of habitat loss and the decline of some of the world's rarest animals is increasing rapidly, due to intensive harvesting of forest products and man's demand for more agricultural land. We are trying to minimise this impact by reducing the need for imported timber, from other parts of the world, as well as reducing the need for landfill in this country.

By recycling and reusing waste wood we are helping to reduce deforestation and the need for landfill, which in turn helps to prevent the release of CO2 and methane into the atmosphere. We then reuse or resell this wood, which locks up carbon and prevents it from damaging the environment.

Meet a few friendly faces........

Mr Andrew Hicks - Project Director

"I enrolled and studied environmental sciences in the 1990’s and never really recovered from it. The course really opened my eyes. This fueled my madness for recycling that I had had for years and strengthened my hatred of landfill; what a stupid thing to do with waste!

All landfill creates is a waste of resources and a waste of land and more importantly a loss of habitat for millions of animals.

I was running out of steam and completely uninspired with my current job, I wanted to feel better about myself, the direction my work was going in and really wanting to make a difference. After reading a newspaper report about a wood recycling venture, and then making further enquiries this seemed to tick all my boxes……. And a few I hadn’t thought off

I quickly realised that there was a lot of likeminded individuals that also need to feel they were making a difference.

Environmental issues are really at the heart of everything I try to achieve here at Chiltern, and I try to install these into everything we do. 100% of everything we collect is recycled and we are constantly striving to become better as we grow."

Charlotte Coombs - Office manager

"After spending most of my working life in a Corporate Marketing environment, I was offered the exciting opportunity to work for Chiltern Wood Recycling in September 2016. I find working for a non-profit social enterprise so much more rewarding, because I know my work contributes to keeping wood out of landfill, protecting the environment and also makes a positive difference to people's lives.

We have some really exciting projects planned for the near future, including the launch of our woodwork courses to the public and the opening of our new customer showroom, which will allow us to display our beautiful, hand-crafted products within a designated area.

Our team work really hard - from drivers to volunteers - and it's such a privilege to work alongside such a diverse, happy and enthusiastic bunch of people, all working together for a great cause. The ethos and 'magic' of Chiltern Wood Recycling has me hooked."

Mark Sadler - Senior Driver

"Ive been working for Chiltern wood since March 2016. During my time here ive been part of a team that goes out in vans collecting wood from construction sites. Also i am learning to make furniture, which i love doing, and i also learning all the wood workng skills as i go along. There is never one day the same at Chiltern Wood which makes my time here very enjoyable and we have a great team which always helps. Thank you Andy for employing me"

Adam White

"Hello I am Adam and I have worked at Chiltern Wood Recycling for 2 years and have enjoyed the whole experience. My days mainly consist of building bespoke furniture in our workshop and also driving loading the company vans at contractors sites.

Since working at Chiltern I have become a bit of a tree hugger and like nothing more than to build out of the recycled timber or just see what some of our customers make out of the wood drops or the timber we sell in the unit.

The camaraderie at Chiltern is great and it’s not often you come across a whole team who all get on"

Rob Ashcroft

" I have been working for Chiltern Wood Recycling since February 2018. I work with an enthusiastic and committed team that has an aim to build a sustainable future by collecting wood from construction sites and recycling it rather than filling up landfill. My primary role is a driver however I am also able to learn wood working skills and assist in the making of bespoke, handcrafted furniture. Every day is different working for Chiltern Wood and I very much enjoy being part of a dedicated team helping to protect the environment"
